How to use the white sage smudge stick

There’s no compulsory ritual or complicated protocol. All you need is a flame, a heat-resistant dish and a moment for yourself:

1. Light one end with a match or lighter. Let the flame catch for a few seconds.
2. Blow gently until only the ember is left. The smoke will start to rise, dense and aromatic.
3. Let it rest on a ceramic bowl or sand, or carry it through the rooms you want to refresh.
4. To put it out, press the tip against the surface of the bowl. Never with water — moisture spoils the leaves and makes it harder to relight.

A single smudge stick can be lit and put out several times, so there’s no need to burn it all in one go. Use it whenever you need it: when you get home, before meditating, on a Sunday afternoon or at any moment when the air calls for a change.

How long does a white sage smudge stick last?

One 8-10 cm long can last up to 2 hours when burned continuously. As it can be put out and relit, a single smudge stick is enough for several sessions.
