Iceolator is a cannabis concentrate made through ice-water extraction, with no chemical solvents whatsoever. This process cleanly separates the plant’s trichomes while keeping the natural cannabinoids and terpenes intact. The result is a hash of the highest purity, with a CBD concentration that can exceed 60%.
At Cannactiva, we have developed our own Iceolator 60% CBD, a 100% natural concentrate, cold-stored and crafted from selected hemp strains. In this guide we explain exactly what iceolator is, how it’s made step by step, how it differs from other types of hash and why it’s one of the most sought-after CBD hash products on the market. What is Iceolator?
The name “Iceolator” combines the words ice and isolate: literally, isolating by means of ice. It is a mechanical extraction technique that uses ice water and filtration meshes to separate the trichomes from the cannabis plant material.
Trichomes are the microscopic glands that coat cannabis buds and hold the highest concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes (responsible for the aroma). When the plant is submerged in water at very low temperatures, these glands harden, detach and can be separated by filtration.
What sets iceolator apart from other concentrates is that no chemical solvent is used in the process. The only extraction agent is ice water, which guarantees a clean final product, free of residues and with an intact aroma profile.

How is Iceolator made? The step-by-step extraction process
Making iceolator involves three main stages. Although it can vary from one producer to another, the principle is always the same: cold, water and mechanical filtration.
Step 1 — Freezing and ice-water infusion
The plant material (hemp buds and trim rich in trichomes) is frozen beforehand and then submerged in iced water. The extreme cold makes the trichomes brittle so they detach easily from the plant. The mixture is gently agitated to help the separation.
Step 2 — Filtering through micron meshes
The water-and-trichome mixture is passed through a series of filtration meshes or bags with different pore sizes, typically between 73 and 119 microns. Meshes in this range retain only the full-head trichomes (the richest in cannabinoids), while the plant matter and impurities are left behind. This step is what determines the final purity of the concentrate.
Step 3 — Drying and cold storage
The filtered material is spread over absorbent surfaces and left to dry in a cold, dry environment. Proper drying is essential to prevent mould and to preserve the terpene profile. Once dry, the iceolator is kept in cold storage to preserve its freshness, aroma and potency.
Iceolator vs bubble hash vs dry sift: what’s the difference?
There are several types of cannabis concentrate made without solvents. These are the three best known, along with their main differences:
Iceolator
Ice-water extraction with fine meshes (73–119 microns). Very high purity. Soft texture that turns gummy when handled. Intense aroma with fresh, gassy notes. CBD concentration of up to 60% or more.
Bubble hash
Ice-water extraction with vigorous agitation (using a set of meshes of different sizes). High purity. Soft, malleable texture that bubbles when heat is applied. Intense, earthy aroma. CBD concentration between 30% and 50%.
Dry sift
Dry mechanical sifting, with no water. Medium-high purity. Fine, sandy powder texture. Mild, herbal aroma. CBD concentration between 20% and 45%.
Iceolator and bubble hash both rely on ice water, but iceolator stands out for a more precise filtration that yields a concentrate of greater purity. Bubble Hash uses more vigorous agitation that can drag along more plant matter. Dry Sift, for its part, does without water and is obtained through dry mechanical sifting.

Features of Cannactiva’s Iceolator
Our Iceolator is one of the most potent CBD concentrates on the European market. Here are its main features:
- CBD concentration: 60%, one of the highest available in CBD hash
- THC: below 0.3%, the European limit
- Extraction: 100% mechanical, using ice water and 73–119 micron meshes. Solvent-free
- Texture: soft and earthy at rest. When worked with the fingers, it turns gummy and resinous as the trichomes release their contents
- Aroma: fresh and resinous, with gassy notes preserved thanks to cold storage
- Storage: kept cold from the moment it’s made to keep the terpenes and cannabinoids intact
- Strains: crafted from hemp strains selected for their high trichome content
How to store and enjoy Iceolator
Storage
To keep iceolator at its best over time, we recommend:
- Keeping it in a cool, dry place away from direct light
- Ideally, storing it in the fridge inside an airtight container
- Avoiding sudden changes in temperature, which can alter the texture and degrade the terpenes
- Handling it as little as possible with your fingers: body heat breaks the trichomes and releases the resin prematurely
Ways to enjoy it
Cannactiva’s Iceolator CBD is a collector’s and aromatherapy product. Its intense aroma profile makes it ideal for anyone who appreciates high-quality cannabis concentrates. Some common ways to enjoy it:
- Aromatherapy: its fresh, resinous aroma can be enjoyed directly
- Collecting: as a premium piece in the world of CBD concentrates
- External use: it can be added to homemade skincare preparations
The origin of Iceolator: Mila Jansen and the Pollinator Company
The iceolator technique was developed and popularised by Mila Jansen, known as “the Queen of Hash”, in 1990s Amsterdam. Jansen founded the Pollinator Company and created the ice-water extraction system with mesh bags that we know today as the Ice-O-Lator.
Her innovation revolutionised the world of cannabis concentrates by offering a clean extraction method, free of chemical solvents and within reach of producers of every size. Before her invention, hash was mostly made by dry sifting or hand rubbing.

Frequently asked questions about Iceolator
What is iceolator CBD?
Iceolator CBD is a cannabis concentrate obtained through ice-water extraction and filtration meshes. It is a high-purity type of hash, rich in CBD and free of chemical solvents. Cannactiva’s Iceolator contains 60% CBD.
What’s the difference between iceolator and bubble hash?
Both use ice water, but iceolator relies on a more precise filtration with specific micron meshes (73–119 microns), producing a concentrate of greater purity. Bubble hash usually involves more vigorous agitation and can carry over more plant matter.
How should iceolator be stored?
In a cool, dry, dark place, ideally in the fridge inside an airtight container. Avoid handling it too much and avoid sudden changes in temperature.
Does Cannactiva’s iceolator contain THC?
Cannactiva’s Iceolator contains less than 0.3% THC, the limit set by European regulations for hemp. It does not produce psychoactive effects.
Is it legal to buy iceolator CBD in Europe?
Yes, in most European countries. Cannactiva’s Iceolator contains less than 0.3% THC, the limit set by European regulations for hemp, and complies with the applicable regulations. Each country has its own rules, though: in some, such as the UK, hemp flower and hash are controlled even with a low THC content.
